Negotiate Successful Installment Agreements
Every year, approximately 3 million taxpayers end up owing money to the IRS they cannot pay in a lump sum. They face potential wage levies, bank levies, property seizures and tax liens; and of course, penalties and interest. Many of these clients just need a little time to get control of the problem. The installment agreement is an important part of an overall strategy to manage delinquent tax debts, avoid enforcement action, and resolve tax delinquencies once and for all.
This 2-hour (100 minute) course covers:
-
- Understanding how an installment agreement can be used to avoid enforced collection
- What are criteria for obtaining and maintaining an installment agreement (IA)
- How to apply for an IA
- The IA’s impact on the collection statute of limitations
- What are the various types of IAs that are available
- What is a Partial Pay IA and how does it work
- What is a “Guaranteed IA” and how does it work
- How to avoid defaulting an existing IA
- Using creative ideas to take full advantage of an IA strategy
- The difference between a regular IA and a Streamlined IA
- Understanding and using the 1-Year and 6-Year rules
- Understanding the managing the IRS’s National Standards, Local Standards, Transportation Standards, and Health Care Standards
- Q&A session
